Our Story
The Orchid House was established in 2006, by friends Ruth and Libby. Situated in Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District, the store has become a firm favourite with both locals and visitors to the area.
We offer an eclectic and ever-changing array of beautiful products for both home and garden, and a wide range of gifts for people of all ages.
Enjoying good working relationships with our suppliers, we are proud to be the exclusive stockists in our area for many well known brands, such as Rice, Sophie Allport, Greengate, Garden Trading, and many more.

Ruth | Director
With more than 30 years of retail experience, Ruth is the backbone of our shop. She can turn her hand to all aspects of the business, whether it be the accounts, placing orders, chasing suppliers, managing the website, or cracking out the hammer and putting up some shelves.
Mum to a large family, and now Grandma to Marlowe, Ruth enjoys ridiculously long walks with her husband and Rocky, their German Pointer. She also enjoys gardening, sewing, dancercise and pretending she can sing.
Libby | Director
Having studied for an MA at Glasgow University and training as a nurse in Edinburgh, Libby fell into the world of retail. Responsible for the creative side of the business, Libby has had a love of interior design for many years, obsessing over the smallest detail.
With both children now flown the nest, Libby and her husband continue to renovate their crumbling house. Libby enjoys cooking, gardening, and encouraging Ruth to drink too much wine, whilst drinking copious amounts herself!!
